Almighty God: You know that in this world we are under great pressure, so that, at times, we cannot stand. Stiffen our resolve and make faith strong, so we may dig in against temptation and, by your power, overcome; through Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.
Merciful God, You sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation. Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Faithful God, your promises stand unshaken through all generations. Renew us in hope, that we may be awake and alert as we watch for the glorious return of Jesus Christ, our Judge and Savior, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, this prayer is to guide us in opening our hearts in thanksgiving to the Lord.
Most high God, Creator and Ruler of the universe; by your hands were all things made. You have granted us freedom through your Son Jesus. We give thanks for the freedom we have. You produce the harvest, providing bounty from the fruits of the earth. We thank You for the harvest and the feast we enjoy with family and friends. You favored our ancestors with faith and hope; they were faithful in sharing your grace and love with successive generations. We are thankful for the faithfulness that continues from generation to generation. As we offer up our gratitude, may we be faithful in proclaiming your goodness and mercy, and in offering our adoration and praise to You, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and King. Amen.
As we start the early election and prepare for election day, I thought I would offer the following prayer for God’s people to use over the next couple of weeks.
Almighty God, Who holds your people to give an accounting of their use of the talents, privileges, and powers You have entrusted to them; we pray that You will guide your people as they elect their government officials and representatives. We pray for civility and respect; for the rights of all people to be protected; for your desire and will to be revealed and accepted by all the faithful. We pray that your church, which has been so divided by politics, may put aside all political ideologies and be united in your mission and purpose for our lives, for the sake of Jesus Christ, Lord of lords and King of kings. Amen.
God of all creation, from Whom proceeds all righteousness and truth, love and mercy; we pray that You will fill the hearts of all people with the true love of your grace and peace. Guide us by your holy and pure wisdom, that we may follow your counsel and advance your kingdom until all people are filled with the knowledge of your love and mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
